Andrea Powell Wolfe is currently completing a PhD in twentieth-century American literature at Ball State University. She defended her dissertation, entitled “Black Mothers and the Nation: Claiming Space and Crafting Signification for the Black Maternal Body in American Women's Narratives of Slavery, Reconstruction, and Segregation, 1852-2001,” in December of 2009 and will graduate in May.
